The beehive is Utah's emblem. The honeybee is the state insect. The shield has a Sego Lily which is the state flower, growing on either side. The Sego Lily represents peace. The date 1847 is important to the states history. In that year, Brigham Young led a group of pioneers to Salt Lake Valley which was their new home.
